Geometry Challenge

Can you determine the value of each of the missing angles below (a – q), using the Basic Geometry Rules shown below? (Hint: start with angle h)

a = ____

b = ____

c = ____

d = ____

e = ____

f = ____

g = ____

h = ____

i = ____

j = ____

k = ____

l = ____

m = ____

n = ____

o = ____

p = ____

q = ____

Basic Geometry Rules :

    1. Right angle  ⦜  = 90º
    2. Straight line = 180º (along each side).
    3. Triangle = 180º (sum of the 3 internal angles).
    4. Quadrilateral (or 4-sided polygon) = 360º (sum of the 4 internal angles).
    5. l, II & lll – pairing lines/angles of equal length/angle.
    6. Vertically opposite angles are equal ⧒

Safety-codes

To open each safe, you must enter their Safety-code in the correct order. The number on each key tells you how many squares to move, and the letters tell you in which direction (U = up, D = down, L = left or R = right). From the following safes’ entry keypads, can you determine which is the first key that must be pressed in the code in order to open each safe?

Solution:

Safe A
Safe B

Alphametics

Find the number equivalent for the following alphametic expressions to make the equations true. Each letter is unique with values from 0 to 9. (Note: There may be more than one answer.)

Solutions:

  1. XYZ + XYZ + XYZ = ZZZ
    185 + 185 + 185 = 555
  2. MATH + ATH + TH + H = 5000
    3965   + 965 + 65 + 5 = 5000
  3. ZERO + ONE + TWO = THREE (given R = 3)
    9635 + 546 + 185 = 10366    &
    9635 + 586 +    145 = 10366
  4. TWO + THREE + SEVEN = TWELVE (given V = 5)
    106 + 19722 + 82524 = 102352   &
    104 + 19722 + 82526 = 102352
  5. SEVEN + SEVEN + SIX = TWENTY (given I = 5, W = 3 and X = 0)
    68782 + 68782 + 650 = 138214

Letter grid

In the following diagram, each of the nine letters stand for a number (1 through 9, without repeats). Using the following clues, can you determine the number that represents each letter A through I?

Clues:

  1. In one diagonal, each number is a square.
  2. D, C and I are odd numbers in ascending order.
  3. G is the sum of A and F.
  4. B is the product of E and H.
  5. One row has consecutive numbers in some order.
